It’s also at the heart of the canal network, with miles of towpaths – and the occasional canalside pub – for easy level strolls. If you want to take off on an electric bike these can be hired, complete with bespoke route maps, and there’s secure bike storage on offer.

 

Last but not least, Woodlands Retreat is only ten minutes from the National Memorial Arboretum. Not only is this a place where you could while away many a walking day, it once more marks the start of the National Forest Way – A a new 75 mile walking trail through the National Forest.

It takes walkers on a journey through a transforming landscape. Across 75 miles of footpaths from the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, through Derbyshire to Beacon Hill Country Park in Leicestershire, you will discover the story of the National Forest. The Way is divided into 12 stages ranging in length from 4 to 7.5 miles and each stage is designed to showcase a different aspect of the National Forest.
